Professor Pallab Bhattacharya will present the 2006 Distinguished
University Professorship lecture today at 4:00 p.m., in the Rackham
Amphitheatre.

Professor Bhattacharya's talk is titled "From Pigeons to
Spin-Polarized Lasers: Transmission of Information Through the Ages."

The Distinguished University Professorship is one of the highest
awards bestowed by the University. It recognizes faculty who have
demonstrated "extraordinary achievements in the areas of teaching and
mentoring, scholarly research and/or creative endeavors, service and
other activities which have brought distinction to the University as
well as national and international renown."
